Palau may be best known for the striking visual appearance of the Rock Islands.  Emerald gems in a turquoise and azure setting, the Rock Islands take the form of mushrooms, the bases eaten away by the slow, arduous chipping of the limestone by marine organisms burrowing in and grazing for food.  The entire chain of islands is located in a massive lagoon 93 miles long and as broad as 18 miles which is surrounded by a barrier reef.  On the outside of the reef is a wall, frequently vertical or undercut, plunging to depths exceeding 1,000 feet. The islands are renowned for their giant gorgonian fans and magnificent soft corals of every hue of the rainbow.  Gardens of multicolored soft corals adorn Ngmelis and Pelelilu walls.
Palau's pristine waters boast a year round temperature of 82° F (27° C), unlimited visibility usually between 100 -150 feet, and over 1500 types of fish and 700 types of hard and soft coral. Night dives and snorkeling at the unique Jellyfish Lake all add up to a diving experience like no other.

Blue Corner - This dive is a wall dive with current.  You'll see an amazing amount of large predator fish and if they happen to be feeding the action is spectacular!  Among the fish you'll see are pelagics, gray reef sharks, white tip reef sharks, napoleon wrasse, schooling barracudas (black spot barracuda and black fin barracudas), schooling black snappers, schooling jacks, giant trevally, turtles, spotted eagle rays.

Blue Hole - This is a combination drift, wall and cavern dive.  The formation of the four holes on top of the reef are the reason to dive Blue Holes. After exploring the large open cavern, you can turn left and swim to Blue Corner - on the way, you can see all of the fish that Blue Corner is known for.  Fish to see at Blue Hole are Colin's angel fish, multicolored angel fish, Burgess' butterfly fish, Merten's butterfly fish.

There are many more dive sites in Palau, the number being to numerous to mention.  Palau  has the best wall diving in the world and some of them are quite challenging.  The sea life in this area is immense.

But within the lagoon you will experience glassy calm seas and shallow sites.  Giant tridacna clams, lionfish, clownfish, turtles and a stunning variety of invertebrates will great you.  And as in a lot of places in the area, World War II battles  and skirmishes were fought.  In the lagoon are at least 50 World War II wrecks and dozens of planes littering the floor including a downed Japanese Zero that you can snorkel over at high tide and walk around at low tide.
