Soc8.gif (75216 bytes) Cozumel is Mexico's largest island, nestled just 12 miles off the coast of the Yucatan peninsula.  A little bit more about the island.  Cozumel is world renown for it's dazzling white sandy beaches and the remarkable clarity of the multi-hued azure Caribbean ocean in which it rests.  Average water temperature is from 77° to 82° F and visibility is 100+ foot.   Besides all of this the other reason Cozumel is a top dive destination is because its a fun place to be when your not in the water.  You can party at the numerous bars, listening to raggae music or enjoy the family-oriented weekend fiestas in the town square.  Cabs are available for quick transportation around town.  The Mexican pesos is the official currency but dollars are accepted although you will receive pesos as change.  Traveler's checks and credit cards are accepted at most hotels, dive shops and many restaurants.

There are several great dive sites along with some dive/snorkeling sites near shore with beach access.  Please refer to the map for locations of dive sites.  The marine life is varied among the sites.  A few common nearshore species include yellow stingrays, barracudas, black groupers, moray eels, angelfishes, butterfly fishes, wrasses, barjacks, grunts, snappers, and triggerfish.
